Expect road closures on Sunday as runners discover Atlanta one mile at a time at the Atlanta Marathon and Marathon Relay on Sunday, October 30, 2011. The 26.2 mile urban course starts and finishes at Atlantic Station taking participants on a tour of Atlanta past well-known Atlanta sites and neighborhoods such as Georgia Tech, Centennial Olympic Park, Georgia Aquarium, Turner Field, Grant Park, Oakland Cemetery, Martin Luther King Center, Piedmont Park, Buckhead and the famous Peachtree Road.

ATLANTA -- A subcommittee of local elected officials took nearly four hours Monday to hammer out a $6.1 billion list of highway and transit projects to be funded by a proposed regional sales tax.

The Atlanta Regional Transportation Roundtable's Executive Committee voted unanimously for the projects just more than seven hours before a deadline required by transportation funding legislation passed by the General Assembly last year.

The bill gave roundtables in 12 regions across Georgia until Aug. 15 to develop preliminary project lists. The final lists that will be submitted to voters in each region next year must be completed by Oct. 15.

MARIETTA: CCT fares go up on Oct. 1

MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - Cobb County commissioners have decided to raise fares for Cobb Community Transit.

The Marietta Daily Journal reports that commissioners on Tuesday voted unanimously to raise the fares, a decision that comes less than a year after fares were last increased.

Authorities say local one-way trips for adult riders will increase from $2 to $2.50. One-way trips on the heavily-used Express buses will go from $4 to $5.

The new fares will take effect Oct. 1.

Cobb County --  At midnight on Aug. 1, Cobb Community Transit bus service on routes 35, 65 and 70 will be discontinued.

To make the transition as smooth as possible for all affected residents, Cobb Department of Transportation staff is offering guidance and information on other transportation options. These options include: carpooling and vanpooling; shuttle services; bicycling; telecommuting; walking and private transportation vendors.
