Shoplifting, armed robbery suspect arrested outside Kennesaw mall

KENNESAW, Ga. -- A man wanted in Cobb County for two shoplifting and armed robbery cases was arrested Friday evening in Kennesaw.

Officers of the Cobb County Police Department were alerted of a theft around 5:30 p.m., at Town Center Mall. When they arrived to the parking lot outside of Macy's, they found a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

Police were looking out for the light blue 1994 Ford Crown Victoria in connection with two armed robbery cases that happened earlier that week.

On Wednesday, August 28, investigators said a man went into the Walmart on Chastain Meadows Parkway. He took merchandise from the store, bypassed the clerk and pulled a knife outside where loss prevention staff approached him.

The man drove away in a Ford sedan.

Later that afternoon, the man pulled the same stunt at the Sears on Ernest Barrett Parkway. Once again, the light blue car was used to get away from officers in the parking lot. Maloney threatened them with a knife before driving away.

James Luther Maloney is on a parole hold with no bond. The 51-year-old man was charged with theft by receiving and shoplifting.

Detectives questioned Maloney, and believe he has stolen at least $50,000 worth of goods from retail stores around Atlanta.

Any businesses who feel they may have been victimized in connection with Maloney's crimes is asked to call the Cobb County Police Department at (770) 590-5769 or (770) 590-5779.
