Guard injured in FedEx facility shooting undergoes another surgery

MARIETTA, Ga. -- The FedEx facility guard injured in a shooting last April underwent another surgery on Friday.

Christopher Sparkman was placed in a medically-induced coma last week after an emergency surgery.

In April 2014, Sparkman was one of six people injured after a 19-year-old man opened fire at the Kennesaw FedEX facility. Sparkman was shot at point-blank range in the abdomen. The gunman went on to kill himself.

Sparkman has undergone more than two dozen surgeries since the shooting. He was released from the hospital last August before going back for recent medical complications.

On Saturday, Sparkman's wife, Jamie Lynn, posted this update on their website:

Christopher's surgery went as well as expected yesterday. He was taken off the vent last night. More to update later - wanted you all know know this now. Thank you for your continued prayers!

Sunday night, she posted:

Romans 5:3-5 ESV

More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
