20 apartments damaged in Kennesaw fire

KENNESAW, Ga. -- No one was hurt when a fire ripped through a Kennesaw apartment building overnight.

The fire broke out at around 1:30 a.m. Friday in a 20-unit building at the Heights of Kennesaw Apartments in the 1900 block of Barrett Lakes Boulevard.

A Cobb County Fire spokesperson said eight apartments suffered fire damage, while the remaining 12 had smoke and water damage. Apartment management confirmed all residents escaped the blaze.

The Red Cross was called in to assist 11 families. Red Cross spokesperson Sherry Nicholson said the agency will provide food, clothing and hotel lodging for the 18 adults and five children.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation. Nineteen of the 20 units were occupied at the time of the fire.
