Kennesaw Mountain High students disciplined over Twitter threats | News

COBB COUNTY, GA - Parents checked out hundreds of students early at Cobb County's Kennesaw Mountain High School on Friday.

Several Kennesaw and Cobb County campus police officers also beefed up security after finding out someone had threatened violence at the school on Twitter.

"This whole week has been kind of crazy," KMHS sophomore Danielle Snow told 11 Alive News as she left the school.

"There's been a lot of talk about fights, but last night on Twitter everyone was talking about some shooting," she added.

Kennesaw Police credit several students, including at least one in their explorer program, with notifying them Thursday night about threats of potential gang violence.

Kennesaw Police officers went to the school Friday morning and rounded up at least four students apparently involved in the Tweets.

They were turned over to campus police, who took over the investigation.

Principal Kevin Daniel posted a statement about the threats and a letter to parents on the school website saying except for a high number of student checkouts and added security, nothing unusual happened.

He also wrote, "As students who were making threatening statements were identified, we have disciplined them according to district policy."

Some students praised police and school officials for their quick reaction.

"(The) school's in a good area and there's not a lot of things happening like this very often," KMHS junior Bryan Gonzalez told 11 Alive.

"It's just one of those days, I guess," he added.

So far, police have not said if any of the students could face any criminal charges in addition to school discipline.
