Empire Beauty Schools Honor Breast Cancer Survivors

Although October has passed, Empire Beauty Schools are working to do their part to commemorate breast cancer survivors. On Tuesday, December 7th from 9:00 until 4:00 p.m. at different Empire Beauty School locations around Atlanta cancer survivors are invited to campus for a day of complimentary pampering as a part of the school’s participation in Cancer Survivor Beauty & Support Day (CSBSD).  

Men, women and children of any age will be treated to free hair and nail services on a day that is intended to make all cancer survivors feel supported and appreciated, and to get a much-needed break from their daily worries.

CSBSD has been recognized and acknowledged by several state and local governments, received an honorary proclamation in the House of Representatives and is supported by volunteers who work for hospitals, cancer clinics and cancer care organizations.

Give Blood at Town Center Mall

KENNESAW, GA -- Town Center Mall (400 Ernest W. Barrett Parkway NW, Kennesaw, 30144) will open its doors to the community as a host site for an American Red Cross Blood Drive during the week of Thanksgiving.

The drive will take place in the Upper Level JC Penney Wing. Participants can give blood on Tuesday, Nov. 23 and Wednesday, Nov. 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or Friday, Nov. 26 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

According to the Red Cross:

* Someone needs blood every two seconds in the U.S.

* Just one pint of blood can save up to three lives

* Type O is the most requested by hospitals

* More than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day

* Approximately 60% of the U.S.

Rite Aid to Hold Free Diabetes Clinics

ATLANTA -- November is American Diabetes Month, and a number of Atlanta-area Rite Aid pharmacies will hold free Diabetes Solutions Days during the week of Nov. 1.

An annual tradition, these clinics are a great chance for patients and caretakers alike to brush up on the latest information from Rite Aid's clinical pharmacy team and the American Diabetes Association, a Rite Aid national strategic partner.

Clinics will take place at the following locations from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.:

Cobb County Hosting Second Medication Disposal Day

COBB COUNTY, GA -- Due to the overwhelming success of the first prescription drug take-back event, Keep Cobb Beautiful and Kaiser Permanente of Georgia are offering another Medication Disposal Program for the public.

The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Cobb County Government Offices at Powder Springs Station (1150 Powder Springs Road, Marietta, 30064).

This is the perfect opportunity for Cobb County residents to safely dispose of their outdated or unused over-the-counter or prescription medications.

Fight the Flu While You Shop

ATLANTA -- There's no need to avoid the mall for fear of getting sick this flu season -- not when you can get a flu shot while you shop.

Every weekend from Sept. 24 to Oct. 24, pop-up flu clinics will be set up in local Simon malls, where nurses and educators will be on-hand to administer flu shots and answer questions about the vaccine.

The cost for a shot is $28; cash, credit and debit cards and Simon mall gift cards are accepted. Government-issued Medicare is also accepted with no out-of-pocket costs.

To reserve a spot and avoid the line, register a time with WellCheck and pay for your shot early. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Annual Bikers for Babies to Benefit March of Dimes

KENNESAW, GA -- It's full steam ahead for stronger, healthier babies. On Saturday, Sept. 18, die-hard bikers and weekend warriors will hit the road to raise urgently-needed funds for the March of Dimes and its mission to improve the health of all babies.

Registration for Bikers for Babies begins at 9:00 a.m., and kickstands go up at 11:00 a.m. for the official start of the ride.

Running for a Cause at Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, GA -- The third annual Run for Recovery 5K took place on Saturday, Sept. 11 on the campus of Kennesaw State University. Runners of all ages came out to tackle the 3.1 mile course in the beautiful late-summer weather.

After the race, participants were rewarded with T-shirts and treated to refreshments provided by race sponsors and local businesses. The top three men's and women's finishers received cash prizes.

The proceeds of the 5K went to the Collegiate Recovery Center, which provides KSU students with the resources for an alternative lifestyle to the one of drugs, alcohol and other risky behaviors, according to its website.
