ATLANTA -- Attractions and events around Atlanta aim to give families an escape from the scorching heat this summer.

An interactive exhibit at The Children’s Museum of Atlanta and a book reading at Room & Board keep kids learning during the school vacation, while events with the Simon Kidgits Club and LEGOLAND Discovery Center provide them plenty of hands-on activities. These indoor events in the Atlanta area promise a break from the dog days of summer and fun for the whole family!

WEEBLES Coast to Coast at The Children’s Museum of Atlanta: Families can visit all 50 states without ever leaving Atlanta! Visitors can explore U.S. geography, history and culture in this educational exhibit at The Children’s Museum of Atlanta from now until September 8. This fun alternative for families who are staying in town this summer will feature American travel, sports and leisure pastimes, music from across the nation and fun facts about well-known people, places and historical events. Children can pretend to hit a home run at Fenway Park, build the Saint Louis Gateway Arch, snorkel in Hawaii and more! Center for Puppetry Arts: This cultural gem offers families multiple puppet shows and exhibits year-round. This summer, Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat—a can’t-miss production—has its first run at the Center for Puppetry Arts from June 13- July 28. After the crazy Cat leaves, the timeless tale of Rumpelstiltskin will take the stage from August 1- September 8.

The Center for Puppetry Arts also boasts an amazing hands-on museum filled with one of the largest collections of global puppetry in the nation. Aside from the permanent exhibits at the museum, guests can also enjoy various rotating exhibits. This summer, guests can explore the Wild, Wooly and Wonderful exhibit, which showcases animal puppets used to tell stories about traditions, culture and everyday life around the world. Jim Henson: Puppeteer, a special exhibit featuring the work of Jim Henson, will be in the museum through August. The Adventures of Maddie reading at Room & Board: Monyetta Shaw’s new children’s book, The Adventures of Maddie, is coming to Room & Board on July 27! Shaw will be in-store from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. to host a reading of the book, and will lead children  in a fun craft honoring National Parents’ Day. The Adventures of Maddie is based on the day-to-day life of Shaw’s own daughter and touches on important topics for any young child, such as sharing, sportsmanship and obedience.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center: The ultimate place for LEGO fans, LEGOLAND Discovery Center has a variety of attractions for children ages three to 12! The LEGO Factory offers a firsthand look at how LEGO bricks are made, and the whole family can build and race their own LEGO cars or experience one of four movies in the 4D Cinema, including the new Legends of Chima experience. For little ones with never-ending energy, parents can sit back and relax while they watch their kids enjoy multiple play areas and rides or learn to build new LEGO models in the Master Builder Academy. The café is open for when lunchtime rolls around, and LEGOLAND Discovery Center even has birthday rooms for the perfect celebration!
