Running for a Cause at Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, GA -- The third annual Run for Recovery 5K took place on Saturday, Sept. 11 on the campus of Kennesaw State University. Runners of all ages came out to tackle the 3.1 mile course in the beautiful late-summer weather.

After the race, participants were rewarded with T-shirts and treated to refreshments provided by race sponsors and local businesses. The top three men's and women's finishers received cash prizes.

The proceeds of the 5K went to the Collegiate Recovery Center, which provides KSU students with the resources for an alternative lifestyle to the one of drugs, alcohol and other risky behaviors, according to its website.

KENNESAW, GA -- The Atlanta housewives are dropping like fleas, and TV mogul Pyler Terry sees an opportunity to create another hit show: "Pyler Terry's The Dead Housewives of Atlanta."

The Kennesaw Police Explorers will be hosting the cast of Agatha's mystery dinner theater for a special fundraiser. Proceeds from this event benefit local youth interested in law enforcement with training, competitions and community involvement.

In this hilarious production, several stars of the hit TV show "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" have met strange and untimely ends. The most recent housewife to bite the big one is fan favorite Boo Boo Biggins, who died shortly after she bit the big "1" on her birthday cake while celebrating her tenth annual 31st birthday.

Cobb CVB Plans Family Reunion Workshop

COBB COUNTY, GA -- The Cobb County Convention & Visitors Bureau will host a free Family Reunion Workshop from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25 at the Doubletree Hotel Atlanta NW/Marietta (2055 South Park Place, Atlanta, 30339). The goal of the workshop is to show attendees how to plan a reunion from start to finish without breaking the bank.

The workshop includes a "How to Plan a Family Reunion" presentation by the CVB's family reunion service specialists, and a meet and greet with hospitality industry partners who specialize in family reunions. Participants will also receive a family reunion planning kit with tips and tricks for reserving hotels, selecting venues and planning itineraries.

Admission is free to anyone who is planning a family reunion in Cobb County, but seating is limited to two guests per reunion. A complimentary lunch will be served.

COBB COUNTY, GA -- Thirty-two restaurants are participating in Cobb County Restaurant Week, Sept.

Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival Crowns Champions

The Right Stuff Team won $2,000 in cash, a Big Green Egg cooker, a one-of-a-kind ceramic trophy and bragging rights as State Champions in the Georgia State Championship Barbeque Cookoff and Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) sanctioned competition. They took home additional cash and prizes in other judging categories, including 1st place in the beef brisket category and 5th place in the pork category as well as 1st place in the Anything Butt competition.

B.S. Pitmeisters was Reserve Grand Champion, winning $1,500 in cash and a trophy.

The category winners for each of the four professional categories are as follows:

Pork: Dust’n & Rub’n Cooking
Brisket: The Right Stuff BBQ

In amatuer competition, the Georgia Boys BBQ team won the Backyard BBQ contest. Sweet Rack BBQ took 1st Place in the peach dessert contest.
