KENNESAW, Ga. -- The Georgia Symphony Orchestra will hold a 5K fundraiser this weekend.

The Noteworthy Race will be Saturday, Sept. 20 at Barrett Lakes Office Park in Kennesaw. The fun will begin with a Tot Trot at 7 p.m., followed by a Mozart Mile at 7:15 p.m. Participants in the 5K will be off and running at 7:30 p.m.

All runners will receive T-shirts and will be admitted to a post-race party with food, music and door prize drawings.

Registration is $35 for the 5K and Mozart Mile, and $10 for the Tot Trot. Georgia Symphony Orchestra and Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra musicians can enter any race for only $10.

PROBE College Fair coming to Kennesaw

KENNESAW, Ga. -- The popular PROBE College Fair will stop in Cobb County next week, giving high school students an opportunity to speak directly to representatives from their favorite colleges and universities.

The fair will be Thursday, Sept. 25 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Town Center at Cobb in Kennesaw.

A number of schools in several states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and the Carolinas, will be represented. See a complete list of participating colleges.

KENNESAW, Ga. -- Simon, a global leader in retail real estate, is teaming up with the hit preschool series Julius Jr. to host a interactive brand experience for members of its Simon Kidgits Club scheduled to be held at Simon malls across the country.

The television series, which airs on Nick Jr. in the U.S., follows Julius Jr. and his playful friends who use equal doses of imagination and inventive spirit to help each other overcome challenges big and small – teaching kids that the best inventions are the ones that help their friends.

Paper shredding, shoe donations in Cobb

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Keep Cobb Beautiful will hold a free paper shredding event for county residents this weekend.

Household documents will be accepted Saturday, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon at Piedmont Church in Marietta. The event will only take paper products -- cardboard, plastic and other such items will not be accepted.

Attendees may also bring shoes to donate. Pairs of shoes should be bound or taped together.

KENNESAW, Ga. -- The Iron Horse 15K/5K, the third event in Kennesaw's Locomotive Race Series, will be held this weekend.

Both events will be Sunday, Sept. 14 at Town Center at Cobb. The races begin at 7:30 a.m.; a 1K fun run is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m.

All runners will receive T-shirts, while 15K finishers will also earn medals. Participants must finish the 15K in less than 2 hours and 30 minutes. Awards will be given to the top overall male and female finishers, male and female masters finishers, and three male and female runners in each age group.

Registration for the 15K is $40 through Sept. 11 and $50 after. The 5K is $25 through Sept. 11 and $30 after; the 1K is $15 through Sept. 11 and $20 after.

Race this Weekend: Celebrate Freedom

MARIETTA, Ga. -- The Celebrate Freedom Festival will kick off this year's event with a 5K and 10K race in Marietta.

Both events will be held Saturday, Aug. 30 at Jim R. Miller Park. Registration opens at 6 a.m., with the 10K scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. The 5K will be off and running at 7:40 a.m.

Awards will be given to the first finishers overall, the first masters finishers and the top runners in each age group. All participants will receive T-shirts, goodie bags and two tickets to Celebrate Freedom, a free Christian music festival featuring such artists as Steven Curtis Chapman, Montell Jordan and Tenth Avenue North.

The 5K costs $30 in advance, while the 10K is $35. The prices go up to $40 for the 5K and $45 for the 10K on race morning.

Registration for the 2014 Cobb County Senior Games is open until Aug. 8. Events will include basketball (three point shot and free throw), billiards, bocce ball, bowling, field events, golf, pickleball, putting, swimming, table tennis and track events. Registration is $20 for Cobb residents and $25 for non-residents. Bowling has an additional fee of $5 and includes three games and shoe rental. Golf has an additional fee of $40 and includes greens fees, cart, continental breakfast and lunch. Opening ceremony will be held Aug. 20 and closing ceremony Sept. 16.
