Father and son sentenced for racketeering

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- A father and son have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a plot to take control of houses they did not own.

Kennesaw residents Guilio Glenn Greye, 61, and Ian Justain Greye, 34, pleaded guilty Tuesday to violating Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.

Giulio Greye was sentenced to five years, while his son received 10 years. Both men are required to spend two years in prison.

Two co-defendants -- 52-year-old Susan Lorraine Weidman of Kennesaw and 29-year-old Matthew Daniel Lowery of Alpharetta -- will be tried next month.

According to information presented in court, the Greyes moved into an empty house on Champlain Street in Decatur and filed false documents with DeKalb County, claiming they owned the property.

ACWORTH, Ga. -- Six employees at an Acworth Walmart were arrested for allowing more than $6,000 worth of merchandise to be stolen from the store.

Walmart loss prevention officers called the Acworth Police Department on Dec. 23 to report the thefts at the store in the 3100 block of Cobb Parkway.

Investigators soon determined the six suspects rang up each others' purchases and then voided the transactions, allowing Walmart employees to take items from the store without paying for them.

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office has captured all three suspects in the shooting death of 47-year-old Christopher Pierce, who was found Sunday evening inside his Misty Hollow Way home.

John Michael Taylor, 27, of Acworth and Krystle Gail Taylor, 27, of Dawsonville were taken into custody Tuesday evening at a house in Dawsonville.

The third suspect, 28-year-old Benson Kyle Lloyd of Jasper, was taken into custody Wednesday while hitting golf balls at the PGA Tour Superstore in Kennesaw.

Cherokee County Sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker said investigators believe Pierce knew the suspects and think the shooting was drug-related.

Authorities say Pierce lived alone. The victim's father discovered his son's body and called 911.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Two Cobb County residents have been found guilty of participating in an elaborate forgery ring.

Alphonsus Idiku, 35, of Kennesaw was convicted Oct. 23 and sentenced to six years in prison. He will be deported to Nigeria after completing his sentence.

On Wednesday, 31-year-old Miesha Sanyell Hunter of Austell was convicted by a Cobb County jury.

Both defendants were charged with six counts of identity fraud and four counts of financial transaction card fraud for their part in what Cobb County Assistant District Attorney Hannah Palmquist called "a window into a larger and more sophisticated forgery scheme."

Dentist pleads guilty to Medicaid fraud

MARIETTA, Ga. -- An Atlanta-area dentist has pleaded guilty to defrauding Georgia Medicaid of more than $2.2 million.

Kenneth Morris Wiggins Jr. entered his plea Friday, and was sentenced to seven years in prison and three on probation. He must also pay $2,230,618.81 in restitution.

Wiggins owned Cosmetic and Family Dentistry of Roswell in Fulton County and Cosmetic and Family Dentistry of Marietta in Cobb County. Both businesses were providers in the Georgia Medicaid Program's Dental Services.

According to information presented in court, Wiggins billed Medicaid for procedures for 220 patients, even though he never actually performed the dental work.

Suspect dead in Midtown fatal shooting

ATLANTA -- Atlanta police have confirmed that the suspect in a fatal shooting in Midtown was found dead in his Clayton County home at around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities said the man appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. 

The suspect was wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred Wednesday morning. 

Police said 47-year-old Bridgette Holt was found shot around 6:45 a.m at Norfolk Southern on Peachtree Street between 14th and 15th streets.

Atlanta Police Officer Kim Jones said Holt, a Norfolk Southern employee, was arriving at work when a male coworker approached her, spoke with her briefly and then shot her several times.

Holt lived in Hampton until about a month ago, when she moved to Kennesaw. Neighbor Eulonda Harris said Holt moved to Kennesaw after her home in Hampton was burglarized.

KENNESAW, Ga. -- A Florida woman faces charges in a weekend accident that left a Ringgold woman dead and her husband seriously injured.

The wreck happened shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday on southbound Interstate 75 near the Hickory Grove Road overpass in Kennesaw.

Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce said 47-year-old Diana Stepp was driving down the road when she sideswiped a Chevrolet Silverado towing a utility trailer filled with farm equipment.

The Chevy veered off the road and overturned in the center median. Its driver, 50-year-old James McNeece, was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition. His wife, 45-year-old Reba McNeece, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stepp was arrested and charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to maintain lane, both misdemeanors, Pierce said.

Jail records show that, as of Tuesday morning, Stepp has not bonded out of jail.
