KENNESAW, Ga. -- Kennesaw officials have approved a $20 million residential and commercial development for the city's downtown area that will include 167 apartments spread across 24 buildings.

The project is scheduled to begin within the next few months and is estimated to take about 18 months, according to Darryl Simmons, Kennesaw's zoning director.

The new development will also offer 10,000 square feet of restaurants, retail and commercial space, according to Mayor Mark Mathews.

Atlanta-based The Halter Companies will build the apartments, amenities, shopping and restaurant buildings.
