Kennesaw Teen Named Semifinalist for SportsKid of The Year

KENNESAW, GA -- She's a stellar athlete, a good student and a volunteer for several local organizations. Now, Kendell Williams also has the chance to be a cover girl.

Williams, 15, of Kennesaw is one of 10 semifinalists to become the 2010 Sports Illustrated Kids' SportsKid of The Year. She now competes to become one of three finalists for the title.

The SportsKid of The Year will be featured on the December cover of SI Kids, honored at SI's annual Sportsman of the Year award celebration in New York City and appear on Cartoon Network's first-ever Hall of Game awards show in early 2011.

According to her biography on the SI Kids website, Williams is a record-setting track & field star at Kell High School in Marietta. She holds the state record for both 100-meter high hurdles and 300-meter intermediate hurdles, and even set a national freshman record when she finished second in the pentathlon at the Nike Indoor Nationals.

During the 2009-2010 track season, Williams was named one of ESPN Rise's Most Outstanding Performers and the Gatorade Georgia Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year. She also has a 3.5 GPA at Kell and does volunteer work for a local orphanage and homeless shelter.
