KENNESAW, GA -- The Kennesaw Museum Foundation recently announced the recipients of their Heroes and Legends Awards for 2010.

Former vice president of the Kennesaw Museum Foundation, RJ Patel, and Vulcan Materials Company are being honored for their continued support of the museum. The winners will be presented with an award at the annual Heroes and Legends Gala, which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16 at Embassy Suites Atlanta-Kennesaw Town Center (620 Chastain Road, Kennesaw, 30144).

RJ Patel served as vice president of the Kennesaw Museum Foundation from 1998 to 2010 and chairman of the Annual Campaign Committee during the same time period. Jeff Drobney, director of recreation and culture for the City of Kennesaw, praised Patel's fundraising efforts.

"I speak on behalf of the Museum Foundation and the City of Kennesaw when I say how much we appreciate RJ's commitment and hard work on countless annual fundraising projects, like the golf tournament and Heroes and Legends Gala. His efforts have helped us achieve new levels of growth," said Drobney.

Vulcan Materials Company is also being honored for its support of the Kennesaw Museum Foundation as a corporate partner. Vulcan has made significant financial and material contributions to the Southern Museum, the City of Kennesaw and Smith-Gilbert Gardens. Vulcan is also the major corporate sponsor of the Big Shanty Festival and the Glover Machine Works exhibit at the Museum.

"Vulcan Materials has contributed so much to make this community as great as it is," said Drobney. "The company's philanthropic spirit has helped build a culturally rich community that families will enjoy for generations to come."

The Heroes and Legends Gala is a fundraiser held to build support for the Southern Museum's educational and outreach programs. This year's festivities include a live auction, silent auction and dinner provided by Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. The Gala has a masquerade theme, and prizes will be awarded for the most creative masks.
