Holiday Help for Cobb County Families in Need | Community Spirit
MARIETTA, GA -- Hundreds of Cobb County families live near, at or below the poverty line. They could use a boost, especially during the holidays.
This year, the Center for Family Resources, in partnership with the Department of Family and Children Services, will register 1,500 Cobb families for the 2010 Thanks for Giving campaign. It is estimated that this year will mark the largest Thanksgiving food distribution in the organization's history; it will take nearly 70,000 food items to ensure that every family in need receives the essentials for Thanksgiving.
Registration for Thanks for Giving 2010 will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 6 and Thursday, Oct. 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Cobb County Civic Center (548 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, 30060). At this time, families can also sign up for the Cobb Christmas program.
Distribution of food boxes to registered families will be on Friday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Nov. 20 at Jim R. Miller Park (2245 Callaway Road, Marietta, 30008), a different location from previous years.
To qualify for Thanks for Giving, a family must live in Cobb County and be low income. Cobb Christmas applicants must have a dependent in the household. All applicants must bring photo IDs and social security cards or birth certificates for all household members; written verification of all household income (check stubs or employer's letterhead) for the past four weeks; written verification of all unearned income (TANF, workman's compensation, unemployment, SSI, child support, etc.); and written verification of Cobb County residency, such as a lease or utility bill in the applicant's name.
