North Cobb High Community Pledges to X the TXT

KENNESAW, GA -- Texting is one of the most dangerous distractions facing drivers today, particularly among teenagers -- and car crashes are the number one killer of teens.

On Monday, Nov. 8, students, faculty and staff at North Cobb High School in Kennesaw joined more than 80,000 Americans who have pledged not to text and drive through Allstate's X the TXT campaign.

Kennesaw Police Department Begins Annual Holiday Fund

KENNESAW, GA -- This holiday season will mark the 33rd year that the City of Kennesaw Police Department has come together to aid less fortunate families in the Kennesaw/Acworth area.

The annual Jerry Worthan Memorial Christmas Fund is about to begin, and the Kennesaw Police Department is looking for help. Donations of money, food and new toys are always appreciated. In 2009, thanks to the generosity of the community, the KPD was able to help over 51 families, including 131 children.

The dropoff location for toys and food is the Kennesaw City Jail. Monetary donations can be mailed (attn: Officer Scott Luther) or brought to the Kennesaw Police Department (2539 J O Stephenson Avenue NW, Kennesaw, 30144), Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Make all checks payable to the Jerry Worthan Memorial Christmas Fund.

Holiday Activities at Town Center Mall

KENNESAW, GA -- Holiday festivities are about to begin at Town Center Mall (400 Ernest W. Barrett Parkway NW, Kennesaw, 30144).

"Thanks for Giving 2010" Center for Family Resources Food Drive -- From Friday, Nov. 5 to Monday, Nov. 15, Town Center will house a donation barrel next to Guest Services on the Upper Level Center Court, outside Macy's Furniture Gallery. Thanks for Giving is collecting food to feed 1,500 Cobb County families this holiday season. For more specific information, visit the Thanks for Giving Web site.

Santa's Arrival -- Santa is coming to Town Center on Friday, Nov. 5 at 6:00 p.m.! His first stop will be outside the Food Court Main Entrance; at 7:00 p.m., he will be escorted to his holiday home with live reindeer. The first 200 children to visit Santa from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

GA High School Football Predictions: Week 10 Revisited

SUWANEE, GA -- Nobody saw Collins Hill's 42-0 win over Norcross coming. Neither did Massey Matchups. It correctly predicted a lot of other games, though.

For the second consecutive week, Massey Matchups missed on five games. In Week Nine, the computer predictor tool went 22-5. This week it went 19-5. Massey Matchups is now 143-41 on the season.

The Impossible 5K is Off and Running in Kennesaw

KENNESAW, GA -- People say that runners are crazy, and they're going to prove it on Sunday, Nov. 7 by running the Impossible 5K . . . in the middle of the night.

The Impossible 5K is the first annual Daylight Savings Time road race. Runners will take off from the starting line just before the clock rolls back and, therefore, cross the finish line "before" they started.

The race will begin at 1:50 a.m. on Nov. 7 at Town Center Mall (400 Ernest W. Barrett Parkway, Kennesaw, 30144). The course is two times around the inner loop of the mall, making it flat, well-lit and free of traffic.

The registration fee for the Impossible 5K is $20 before Nov 2. and $25 after. All proceeds from the race will benefit 65 Roses, an affiliate of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Week Ten Game of the Week Nominees

ATLANTA -- It was a hotly contested vote, but in the end, Westminster at Lovett prevailed as 11Alive and Atlanta.HighSchoolSports.net's Game of the Week with 51.4 percent of the vote. What's at stake in this 2A matchup? A subregion title.

Both Westminster and Lovett are 4-0 in Region 6-2A Division B play and 6-2 overall. Both teams are playing for the subregion title and a chance to play Buford for the overall Region 6-2A crown.

Westminster lost to Buford earlier in the season 32-10; Lovett lost to Buford 37-14.
